Image
*Put arm @ heart level(rest/elevate on pillow etc, if needed) *After beginning deflation, the 1st of more than 1 thump is the top/systolic #.   200 is a good starting point for an older person, BUT the cuff should be pumped to  20-30 mm Hg  above a typical higher systolic B/P for that  particular person.  Lots of Practice with a partner will make perfect! ⇑ ⇑   Always refer to NA handbook for exact details.           ⇒  HEADMASTER CA NA CANDIDATE HANDBOOK

FOR MOST PURPOSES: Rather than auscultate, palpate  for radial pulse, and  hold resident's hand/wrist with yours on  the resident's chest, so you  can SEE and FEEL  the rise & fall of the  chest for respirations better (without  the resident  knowing  what you are counting). Breath In + Breath Out = 1 Respiration.  Lots of Practice with a partner will make perfect! ⇑ ⇑   Always refer to NA handbook for exact details.           ⇒  HEADMASTER CA NA CANDIDATE HANDBOOK
